Film-makers Win Bank of England Competition

Team takes first place in KS5 category

A team of film-makers from Norbury Manor has beaten schools from across the UK in a national competition organised by the Bank of England.

Our talented students took first prize in the BANK, CAMERA, ACTION Key Stage 5 category.

Entrants to the annual competition, which is aimed at secondary school students aged 11 to 18, were asked to submit a short film entitled ‘What independence means to me’ (the Bank of England recently celebrated twenty years of autonomy in setting interest rates).

The win reflects a lot of hard work on the part of the students involved as well as the media studies team, particularly Milena Collins and John Varghese.

Ann Whittaker, from the Education Team of the Bank’s Communications Division, said the judges were impressed by the students' ability to produce "such a first-rate film". She acknowledged the "dedication and hard work of the teachers and students involved, including those who assisted behind the scenes” and said they "should feel very proud of their achievement".

As a result of the win the college has been awarded a trophy and £600 to spend on film-making equipment while individual team members will each receive a certificate and £25 Amazon voucher.
