Exams in adverse weather

December 2011

Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s)

ALL PUBLIC EXAMINATION STUDENTS

Arrangements for holding Public Examinations in the event of adverse weather

Parents/Carers and students should note that:

·         Except in very exceptional circumstances, Examination Boards do not make any allowance for adverse weather conditions regarding either the responsibilities of examination centres or students.
·         It is therefore, the policy of the college to open as an examination centre in adverse weather, even if the rest of the college is closed.
·         A student who is entered for an exam who fails to attend that session, due to adverse weather, will not be eligible for Special Consideration. Therefore the only recourse will be to apply, and pay for a re-sit, if one is available.
·         Given this situation, it is essential that all students make arrangements to ensure they arrive in college to sit their examinations.

We have put a number of contingencies in place in the event of adverse weather, Including:

·         We will be communicating with parents/carers regarding examinations through our website and text facilities. Any changes to telephone numbers should be notified immediately to the Front Office.
·         We are able to slightly alter the start and finish times of examinations in order to ease travel to and from the college.
·         We will also advise on changes to the dress code, if necessary.
·         Special arrangements have been made to ensure key staff are accommodated close to the college.

It is to be hoped that the contingency arrangements we have put in place do not have to be activated but, if they do, please be assured we will do all in our power to ensure the examination period runs smoothly.

Yours sincerely
