Content    
The study of Law is a complete course in itself and is designed for students whether or not they wish to take the subject further.
 
AS
 
G151: English Legal System
Students develop an appreciation of the principles underlying the English Legal System. Areas of focus are civil courts, criminal courts, criminal process, penal system, the Legal Profession, lay people and the provision of legal services.
 
G152: Sources of Law
Candidates will have an appreciation of the principles underlying the English Legal System. Areas of focus are the doctrine of precedent, legislation, European Union law and law reform.

  • G153: Criminal Law
  • G154: Criminal Law (Special study)
 
In the second year, they will examine the principles of criminal law and develop critical awareness of criminal law in relation to specific crimes and defences. Areas of focus are the principles of criminal liability, attempted crimes, and offences against the person, general defences, non-fatal offences against the person and offences against property.
 
Assessment     
Students will complete end of unit assignments throughout the course.
The AS level will be taken as two separate exams in January & June.
The A2 exams will be taken at the end of the second year of study
 
Career Options          
This A Level course is widely accepted by all universities as an entrance qualification for those whishing to read Law as well as other subjects. The course is structured in such a way as to introduce the student to methods of tuition that are found at university.
 
Special Requirements       
4 GCSE’s at grade A*-C  (and preferably History). Due to the nature of the subject we now require a Grade B in English Language.
There will be visits to the Croydon Courts & The Old Bailey.
Students will be expected to purchase the required course texts & resources.
Students should be prepared to work independently using their own initiative as well as co-operatively as part of a group.
Students will be expected to use time out of college to work on projects and research case studies.
