BTEC

BTEC FIRST for Applied Science was first offered to students in 2008.  This program was designed to provide an alternative way of learning science as opposed to the traditional GCSEs.  Currently, we have 3 pathways to BTEC with Certificate (Formally Known as Foundation) which leads to 1 GCSE.  We also offer BTEC Extended Certificate (Formally Known as Certificate) which leads to 2 GCSEs.  For year 9s start, we also have a program for Diploma which is worth 4 GCSEs.  BTEC Applied Science is Level 2 BTEC.  Further progression from this program will lead to more specific studies at Level 3 or above.  Such programs can lead to vocational diplomas and certificates.

Students suitable for such programs include those who wish to pursue a more technical focused discipline of science, as well as those who are interested in more hands-on activities and enjoy independent and project directed learning.
