The History department teaches the outline specifications of the National Curriculum for History. Year 7 begins with an introductory skills unit "What's it all about?" and a look at the evidence from Ancient Rome.
This is followed up with a study of "The Normans" and "Early Medieval England". In Year 8 we examine evidence from Tudor and Renaissance England and Europe. We also complete a special study of the "History of the Black People of the Americas". In Year 9 we find out about Britain in the 19th and 20th centuries with an in-depth look at the role of women.
In Year 10 and 11 we follow EDEXCEL's School's History Project and undertake a Development Study based on the History of Medicine as well as an in-depth inquiry on the American West. Our coursework is on the topic of Women's History.
History is also now established at AS and A2 level and the course followed builds on the skills and knowledge gained at Key Stage 4.
The department uses a variety of teaching methods and has use of the Humanities ICT Suite for much of its teaching. The department also has a wide range of resources for pupils and staff to use and also arranges visits to museums and historical sites to support pupil learning.
