Content The course covers the study of literature from the 14th century to the present day. Texts will be studied in detail with input from both staff and students.

In Yr 12 units are studied to build upon the skills and knowledge acquired during GCSE. Students develop independent reading skills; the ability to discuss how meaning is made and the relevance of social and literary context. In Year 13 the units encourage students to expand and develop their knowledge and skills, with a particular focus on independent comparison between texts and greater application of literary theory.
Assessment Students are assessed through examinations and coursework.
AS:
Poetry and Prose 1800 to 1945 - 2 hour exam
Literature post-1900 – 2 tasks – coursework task (max total 3000 words)
Task 1: One text close critical analysis or re-creative writing
Task 2: Two texts comparative essay
A2:
Drama & Poetry pre-1800 – closed text – 2 hour exam
Texts in Time – comparative study of 3 texts – 1 extended essay (max 3000 words)
Special requirements
Students will need to purchase their own texts throughout the course.
