The Music department seeks to encourage every student to develop her musical ability. Lessons are very practical in nature and students are encouraged to develop their ideas and explore different techniques.
Students are involved in composing and performing activities which are supported through listening, appraising and discussion tasks. Every student has the opportunity to succeed and lessons are well structured to enable everyone to experiment and try new ideas in a supportive environment.
Our Year 9 students compose songs for our Harvest Festival and there are opportunities for other year groups to contribute to many other performance opportunities throughout the year including formal concerts and smaller chamber concerts. The choirs and band perform at our Carol Service and the Special Choir have competed successfully in local music festivals.
The department is involved in staging a biannual musical which have always proved highly successful and popular with students.
Music is offered to GCSE and A Level and each year students opt to study the subject to exam level and in doing so develop their performing and composing skills further.
As well as regular clubs and ensembles, students are encouraged to form their own groups and develop their interests by making use of the departments facilities. Students also have access to a fully equipped recording studio networked to the departments ICT facilities which are used extensively in class.
