The MFL department offers a combination of French, German and Spanish from Year 7 up to Key Stage 5. At the end of Year 9 the students opt for their preferred language to study to examination level although it is possible to still study 2 languages to GCSE level if desired. We actively encourage students, whose first language is not English, to study their home language to GCSE and Urdu classes are taught after college as an extra-curricular activity.
To reflect the nature of NMBEC as a specialist Business and Enterprise College we are currently one of the few schools in the country to be offering the GCSE in Applied French with Business. We are also proud of the fact that the majority of students continue to study a language to examination level.
The use of ICT across the department is widespread and much use is made of interactive technology and new languages software in lessons.
As a department we are also keen to promote cultural awareness and there are regular trips abroad and links with other schools in Europe.
